Affective Design lead the information architecture, interaction design, usability testing and redesign of the internet and intranet sites for the City of Edmonton.
When the fine folks with the City of Edmonton asked us to help them with site usability for the Edmonton.ca redesign, we realized that this represented a great opportunity to improve the lives of the citizens of Edmonton. With traffic topping over 1 million visitors and 4 million page views per month, Edmontonians visit Edmonton.ca to find information on transit schedules, city bylaws, business licenses and city news, to name a few.
Citizens needed a site that would allow them to easily locate information, while the City needed a channel for communicating out to the citizens. The redesign of Edmonton.ca offers both intuitive information architecture and an effective communication channel for the City.
The number of site visitors has doubled, and visits from those visitors have increased by over 300% since the redesign of the site. Major cities all across Canada have contacted the folks at the City of Edmonton to learn more about how they created such an effective tool for communicating with their citizens.
